Rightly Dividing The Word Of Truth

2 Tim 2:15 "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

To "Rightly Divide", we must learn how to properly interpret the Bible by studying it correctly, this article will explain how: How to Interpret The Bible . Also, watch these two short videos below, and see how Dr. Ruckman draws out a timeline chart showing us how to rightly divide the word of truth, and what the Authorized Bible (the Reformation Text) teaches about false doctrines. When a verse is put in the right place, or dispensation , there are no contradictions. A dispensation is a period of time in which God dispenses to men and nations their responsibility to Him concerning obedience, disobedience and His plan of salvation . Watch below:

Confusing Old Testament salvation with New Testament salvation

A common doctrinal error when not rightly dividing the word is confusing Old Testament salvation with New Testament salvation . This heresy contains the false belief that people are saved the same way in both Testaments, carrying along with it the false belief that the nature of the relationship of the Body, Soul and Spirit of our vessel, it's three part nature , is the same in Old Testament Saints as well as New Testament Saints.

Everyone in the Old Testament, including Old Testament Saints, had their Souls spiritually joined to their bodies, with their Souls sharing the sins of their Flesh. When their FLESH sinned, their SOUL also sinned as when touching an unclean thing Lev 22:4-6. This is also true with UNSAVED people now in the New Testament. However at the New Birth the Christians Spirit is quickened with new life, and the Christians Soul is saved and spiritually cut free from the dead flesh with it's sinful Carnal Mind and it's devils. He that is born of God cannot sin because His seed, the Holy Spirit, remaineth in him. The REAL YOU is your Soul. The "Old Man" is the fleshly body that was cut free. The UNSAVED have a live Soul and a dead spirit, and it is their SOULS that go to Hell. Their Soul is that which is their "identity", their personality, memories, mind, will, emotions, their consciousness, their "real you". With Christians that have died already, it is their saved souls that are up in Heaven waiting for their new glorified body at the Rapture, and with we Christians here that are alive and remain, it is our SOULS that are saved from our new birth, we also now have a LIVE spirit that was given life by being quickened by the Holy Spirit at the new birth, (as Adam had before the fall) and we get a new glorified BODY at the Rapture.

The errors from confusing Old Testament salvation with New Testament salvation result when people believe that the Soul and body relationship of a Christian with the New Birth now in this New Testament Church Age, is the same as the Soul and body relationship of an Old Testament Saint with no New Birth. Hence they assume that the Soul of a born again Christians is NOT cut free from the sinful fleshly body as the Bible tells us clearly in Col 2:11. In addition to not rightly dividing the word, the belief as a general statement that the Soul is the "mind, will and emotions" further adds to this Bible doctrinal error. Yes, of course our saved Souls have a mind, will and emotions, but it not the only one that has them, as the sinful Carnal Mind also has a mind, will and emotions. The Bible tells us in Rom 8:6-7 that at the new birth our Soul is saved (with our mind, will and emotions), but we still have to contend with the Carnal Mind that is in our flesly body that wars against our Souls mind (read Romans chapter 7). The Carnal Mind is sinful, and "it is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God". The Carnal Mind is in the fleshly body, and it has it's own mind, will and emotions, and in it "dwelleth no good thing". Having this dual nature, the Christian can choose to be either spiritually minded or carnally minded Rom 8:13 . "To be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace". Various doctrinal errors result, such as the flesh still being spiritually stuck to Soul, the Soul not saved, demons in the Soul, a Christians Soul in this Church age being "knit" together to another persons Soul as in the Old Testament with Jonathan and David (1 Sam 18:1) , etc. These doctrinal errors contradict clear verses in the Bible, and they occur when taking Old Testament verses about the Soul and applying them NOW to a born again Christian.

Confusing New Testament salvation with Tribulation salvation

Another not rightly dividing the word doctrinal error is, for example, when someone takes a Bible verse aimed at the Tribulation, such as losing your salvation in Mat 24:13 "But he that shall endure to the end, the same shall be saved" (which is true in the Tribulation), and applies it now to the Church Age, then the false teaching and doctrinal error of someone here and now in this Church Age losing their salvation results, because the Gospel of the Tribulation ("The Everlasting Gospel" Rev 14:6 ) is not the same as the Gospel of Grace ( 1st Cor 15:3 ) in this current Church Age, and so salvation is different. In the 7 year Tribulation to be saved one must endure to the end keeping all of God's laws and not take the mark of the beast, or he will be damned. To confound and confuse doctrines further, many Christians falsely apply the Tribulation aimed verses about the mark (Rev 14:9-11) to themselves here now in the Church Age of Grace, and this promotes the false fear of taking the mark of the beast (which the Christian will not be on Earth in the Tribulation to be able to take the mark) and also promotes disobedience to God, as God told us to look for His second coming and to comfort one another, not for Christians to worry about taking the mark of the beast nor be looking for other Tribulation events involving God's wrath in the Tribulation. Therefore, when these verses are put in the right place, or dispensation , there are no contradictions, and the false fear of the loss of salvation now in the Church Age and worrying about taking the mark of the beast disappears with spiritual understanding of the truth from the Scriptures being rightly divided. .
